At age 25, Nelson left Universal with enough experience to start his own studio in the Kowloon district of Hong Kong, where he would assume the role of head goldsmith. Aside from overseeing all technical and artistic aspects of manufacturing, Nelson was responsible for the cultivation of talent, turning from student to teacher in just ten years. He took great pride in passing on the craft and still considers it as one his finest accomplishments. Some 35 pupils would become master goldsmiths under Nelson's guidance, carrying on the traditions and values Nelson so astutely took from his own master.
